Lax Parking and the Getty Museum

Facts

Before leaving the LAX parking lot and making the dash to the Getty Museum, here are some interesting facts to read about! The Getty Museum is located in Los Angeles, California. It is not only a museum, but also a grant program, as well as a research, conservation and leadership institute! The museum is a flagship destination of the J. Paul Getty Trust and started from the oilman's private collection in Malibu. The museum opened on December 16th 1997 and occupies 750 acres of land in the Santa Monica Mountains foothills. Here you can find a vast collection of Western art from the middle ages to the present.

Antique Exhibit

Once you've parked your car at the LAX parking lot, head over to the museum's antique exhibit! Here will you find works or ancient art that was purchased by Mr. Getty as early at 1939! Since then, the collection has grown to include things such as marble sculptures, bronzes, Greek and Roman gems.

Drawing Exhibit

Next, head over to the drawing exhibit! Dating back from the 14th century, you will see everything from preparatory sketches to finished independent works of art! Works from Degas, Courbert, van Gogh and many more artists can be found here!

Manuscript Exhibit

The Getty Museum houses one of the finest private collections of illuminated manuscripts in the world! Dating back from the 9th to 6th centuries, you will discover fantastic examples of Ottonian, Gothic, and Renaissance illumination!

Paintings

If you want to look at paintings, the Getty Center is the place to be! Knowing that your car is in good hands at the Johnny Park LAX parking lot, you can take your time and discover the huge collection of 450 European paintings! Dating back from 1300-1900, you will find works from Northern Italian Renaissance, Baroque Paintings from Italy and a number of fine pastels!

Photographs

Here you will find a beautiful collection of European and American photograph that spans through its history. You will find pictures all the way back to the time of its invention to the present day! See the artistic achievements of individual photographers such as William Henry Fox Talbot, Roger Fenton, Walker Evans and many more!

Sculpture and Decorative Arts

See one of the museum's finest and most comprehensive exhibits! With a vast collection of predominantly Parisian objects made between 1650-1800, you will find many interesting objects such as silver, ceramics, clocks, furniture and a whole lot more!

Central Garden

Created by re-known artist Robert Irwin, this breathtaking garden lies at the heart of the Getty Center. Its 134,000 square foot design features natural ravine and tree-lines walkways that lead LAX parking customers through an experience of sight, sounds and scents!

Admission and Directions

LAX parking customers will be happy to know that the Getty Museum has free admission! The place is opened Tuesdays-Thursday and Sundays from 10am-6pm. On Fridays and Saturdays it is opened from 10am-9pm. The museum is located on 1200 Getty Center Drive.

Useful information

If you have a very packed schedule and can only pay the Getty Museum a short visit, be sure to pick up an "If You Only Have an Hour" brochure at the information desk! The Getty Museum is also opened late on selected evenings, and on a clear day the sunsets are beautiful. Check on the museum's website for information about free evening concerts, performance and lectures.
