A New Millennium - A New Koreatown

Olympic Boulevard: The Heart of Koreatown

This main road serves as Koreatown's unofficial central street, providing visitors with access to grocery stores, restaurants, barbershops and a handful of other service sectors. Many of the buildings on this street have also been rebuilt or remodeled to reflect their Korean occupants. More than 160,000 people of Korean descent currently reside in Korean town, and Olympic Boulevard proudly provides these residents with a homey center of entertainment and commerce. Han'gul (Korean alphabet) signs dot every street post and the Korean language can be heard from almost every corner. Olympic Boulevard is also home to the annual Koreatown festival held every fall. This event is one of the communities highlight events and includes a parade complete with drill teams, marching bands and colorful floats. A food fair and martial arts demonstrations are also a major part of the celebration.
