From birds to beasts, the Los Angeles Zoo currently houses one of the finest collections of exotic animals and endangered species. Much smaller and less famous than the neighboring San Diego Zoo, the LA Zoo provides visitors with a more intimate approach to the science of zoology. Easy to navigate and totally affordable, the Los Angeles Zoo features more than 1,200 different types of animals and an unbeatable lineup of shows and events. From the "World of Birds" show to the Mahler Mountain chimpanzee exhibit, the Los Angeles Zoo is hard at work promoting one of the nation's finest animal-friendly facilities. In fact, the zoo is currently in the middle of a revitalization process and expansion program. Once the dust settles, the Los Angeles Zoo will rival the nation's largest facilities. No LAX parking family vacation would be complete without a visit to this friendly manmade wilderness, so what are you waiting for? Hop in your Los Angeles car rental today and get ready for one wild outing.

Lions and Tigers and Bears... You'll Find Them All at the Los Angeles Zoo

The 113-acre Los Angeles Zoo complex is currently home to one of the nation's most extensive animal collections. From frisky felines to scaly snakes, almost every animal family is represented at the zoo inside its own special exhibit. Must-visit exhibits at the Los Angeles Zoo include the renowned "World of Birds" show, the Sea Lion Training and the Animals & You Program. These special features, many of which are held daily, provide LAX parking customers with a chance to get up close and personal with some of their favorite animals. The Zoo also offers an exclusive Animal Foster Parent Program, inviting LAX parking customers to adopt their very own animal family member. Animals currently seeking adoption include meerkats, koalas, warthogs, giraffes and even elephants, so why not lend a helping hand during your upcoming visit? Donations can be made for as little as $25 or as much as $500 and all proceeds will go towards the zoo. Previous donations have helped the Zoo participate in a number of important conservation programs. One such program was the California Condor Recovery Program, which helped return more than 84 condors to the wild.

Stop and Smell the Flowers

Not only is the Los Angeles Zoo one of the nation's finest animal agencies, it is also home to one of California's most stunning botanical gardens. The Los Angles Zoo is just one of nine zoos currently accredited with an onsite botanical garden, providing LAX parking visitors with a beautiful outdoor oasis. With a collection of more than 800 plant species and 7,400 individual plants, the LA Zoo is much, much more than your average animal conservatory. LAX parking customers are encouraged to explore the gardens numerous separate collections. Must-see gardens include those that represent the five different continents, the special growth collection and the five distinct landscape collections that represent the diverse landscape of Southern California.

Interesting and Odd Facts about the Los Angeles Zoo

Since opening in the mid 1960's, the Los Angeles Zoo has witnessed some amazing and unusual activity. Here are just a few of the incidents:

  • Sharon Stone's ex-husband Phil Bronstein was bitten by a Komodo dragon back on 1995 during a private viewing of the zoo.
  • The Los Angeles Zoo is a popular place for movie filming and television tapings. Bruce Almighty, Jerry McGuire, Eraser, XXX, The Sopranos and Malcolm in the Middle have all shot scenes inside the zoo.
  • When Disney needed inspiration for their animated movie, "The Lion King", animators were sent to the LA zoo to draw sketches of the warthogs, meerkats and lions.

No zoo in the world is quite like the one located right here in Los Angeles, so why waste another minute? Plan to drop in and see some wonderful wild animals during your upcoming Johnny Parks LAX Parking vacation. General admission to the zoo is $10 for adults, $5 for children and $7 for seniors. The zoo and botanical gardens are open daily 10am to 5pm during the winter and 10am until 6pm during the summer. The Los Angeles Zoo is located inside Griffith Park.
