If someone were to ask you what a museum's function is, how would you answer? Most LAX airport parking customers would say that a museum is meant to educate visitors through a collection of exhibits and factually accurate artifacts. So what then is a museum designed entirely of fabricated artifacts? The answer to this question lies inside the Museum of Jurassic Technology in Los Angeles, California. Inside this charming building you'll find what claims to be "a specialized repository of relics and artifacts from the Lower Jurassic". These artifacts are further said to emphasis and "demonstrate unusual or curious technological qualities". Although this explains the museum's name it hardly explains the facilities nature - the Lower Jurassic period ended over 150 million years before the appearance of humans or anything slightly resembling human beings!

So is this museum a fraud or an imaginative way of looking at history? Customers of Johnny Parks LAX Airport Parking are invited to find out for themselves by visiting the museum on Venice Boulevard. Founded by the husband and wife team of David and Diana Wilson, the Museum of Jurassic Technology is sure to puzzle even the most enlightened Los Angeles traveler, so why wait? Plan to visit this paradoxical place during your upcoming California vacation.

What you see... isn't what you get?

The Museum of Jurassic Technology in LA includes a mixture of artistic and scientific exhibits evoking the age old idea of the "cabinet of curiosities". These 18th century primitive institutions acted as predecessors to the modern day natural history museum, showcasing a strange array of "authentic" artifacts. Exhibits at the museum are riddled with factual errors and peculiar attributions, but this all functions to the museum's benefit instead of its reputation. Customers of Johnny Parks LAX Airport Parking are encouraged to pick up the book by Lawrence Weschler entitled "Mr. Wilson's Cabinet of Wonder". This novel, which is based on the Museum of Jurassic Technology, provides a commentary on how and why the facility functions they way it does. Weschler believes that the museum is a commentary on the authoritarian character of most public museums, as well as the trust that patrons place in those authoritarian figures. The Museum of Jurassic Technology also acts as a reminder of the historical period surrounding the Renaissance. This time period was one of rapid scientific progress; a progress that often resulted in the blurring of the boundary between what was considered possible and impossible at the time.

Myths and Make-believe? Exhibits at the Museum of Jurassic Technology

The Museum of Jurassic Technology currently houses a number of permanent oddities and peculiar exhibits. Whether you wish to take these exhibits at face value or challenge their very existence is up to you. Customers of Johnny Parks LAX Airport Parking are encouraged to visit the following permanent collections:

  • Microscopic collages depicting flowers and other objects, made entirely from the individual scales of butterfly wings.
  • A collection of microscopic sculptures and paintings depicting prominent persons. These include a sculpture of Pope John Paul II carved from a single human hair and placed within the eye of a needle.
  • A section devoted to trailer park culture. This collection is aptly entitled "Garden of Eden on Wheels".
  • An exhibit dedicated to household myths and urban legends.
Peculiar pieces are revered within this wonderful little Los Angeles tourist attraction, so come prepared to experience some unexplainable oddities.
